Global Health Fellowship Volunteer Programme 2024/25 Recruitment

August 2022

Dear Doctor in Training

Heath Education England / NHS is now actively recruiting August starting ST/CT2 Specialist
Trainees from GP, ACCS and Paediatric Training Rotations to Global Health Fellowship
posts. Deployments will normally take place in August 2023 and February 2024. Doctors
in Training (DiTs) must ensure they have approval from their local Deanery to take time
out of programme (OOP).

Global Health Fellows are deployed after satisfactory completion of ST/CT2 for 4 - 6
months (OOPE) to clinical posts in South Africa, Namibia, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda
and Sierra Leone. Opportunities are limited but successful applicants will receive a £1000
per month stipend up to a maximum of 6 months from the NHS to cover living expenses
and subsistence.

Applications from August starting ST/CT1s will also be considered for 2024/25
deployments.

The aims of the programme are to

1. Improve health outcomes in resource poor African communities
2. Contribute to the continuing professional and personal development of individual
Doctors in Training (Global Health Fellows)
3. Provide the opportunity for UK Doctors in Training to work overseas and learn from
international colleagues
4. Successful appointment as an NHS Global Health Fellowship with a lifelong commitment
to Global Health
5. Long term benefits to the NHS

An NHS funded research study at Cambridge University will conclude in April 2023 and is
evaluating the evidence base for the above.
